The story in brief

The announcement covers traders, wholesalers, retailers, large retail chains and processors or millers, with separate reporting categories for rice and paddy. Businesses must keep portal disclosures accurate and updated; the ministry warns of action against unregistered entities or violations of prescribed stock limits.1 Separately, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana have central concurrence to impose stock limits through their own control orders where necessary, until 31 January 2027. This is not an announcement of one uniform nationwide quantity cap.1 The government also doubled its 2026–27 domestic rice e-auction sale target from 25 to 50 lakh tonnes.1

Context: A larger supply target does not guarantee an immediate retail-price reduction.

Who this matters for: Rice and paddy businesses

What to do

  1. Read the official disclosure requirements and update the named portal every Friday.
