The story in brief

The Rural Development Ministry announced the notified rules on November 2. State governments must establish complaint mechanisms at Gram Panchayat, block and district levels for matters connected with implementing the rural employment scheme.1 Complaints can reach designated officers in person, by speed post, through the designated digital system or state-approved phone channels. Registration cannot be refused because of language or format; physical complaints must enter the system that day or the next working day.1

An enquiry must finish within seven working days of receipt, with resolution within 15 days. Unresolved cases escalate to the next level. An acknowledgement must identify the registration number, receipt date and receiving authority.1

Who this matters for: Rural employment scheme workers and complainants

What to do

  1. Keep the acknowledgement and check local designated channels; the release gives no portal link.
