The story in brief

The Railway Ministry reported on 4 November that October 2026 freight loading reached 145.07 million tonnes, against 133.93 million tonnes a year earlier. That is an 8.32% increase, covering goods transported across the railway network.1 Food-grain loading grew 26.3% and domestic coal 16.0% year on year. For April–October combined, total freight reached 978.78 million tonnes, compared with 935.10 million tonnes in the corresponding previous period, up 4.67%.1 Separately, domestic coal supplied to power houses averaged 469.8 rakes daily in October, versus 393.2 last year, a reported rise of 19.5%.1

Context: These logistics figures do not by themselves establish lower electricity bills, food prices or passenger fares.
