New FRRO offices notified for Kohima, Agartala and Bhubaneswar
The Home Ministry has announced three more regional registration offices for foreign nationals, while directing expansion to every state capital by 2027.
The story in brief
In its November 2 update, the ministry distinguished recently notified offices in Kohima, Agartala and Bhubaneswar from offices already established in Aizawl and Amravati this year. Jaipur, Chandigarh and Guwahati received offices in 2025.1 FRROs handle eligible foreigners’ post-arrival registration, residential permits and immigration-related services. Kohima and Agartala were previously under Kolkata’s jurisdiction, while Bhubaneswar was under Hyderabad; the expansion aims to bring administration closer to visitors.1
The 2027 target is a plan, not confirmation that every capital already has an office. This announcement gives no opening dates, addresses or counter hours for the three notified offices, so it does not establish that walk-in service has begun.1
Who this matters for: Foreign visitors, students and their hosts in India
