CISF shifts to installation-based commands, with a power sector in Kolkata
CISF changed its command structure on November 1, grouping protected installations by function rather than geography. The new power commands are based in Delhi and Kolkata.
The story in brief
The Home Ministry’s release lists separate sectors for power, coal, steel, petroleum and ports, among others. Previously, one territorial headquarters could oversee more than 50 units spanning very different kinds of installations.1 Power-I is based in New Delhi and Power-II in Kolkata. Aviation sectors have existed since 2001, while the Atomic Energy and Space sector has operated since 2018; the latest change expands the functional model.1
Home Ministry: The ministry expects specialised supervision to improve coordination with installation operators and speed up emergency decisions. Those are the reform’s stated aims; the announcement itself does not measure whether response times or security outcomes have already improved.1
