The story in brief

The October 29 release says Ayushman Vay Vandana provides up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospital care. For families already under AB PM-JAY, an additional cover up to ₹5 lakh is reserved for members aged 70 and above.1 Health ministry: As of October 20, the ministry reported 23.46 lakh authorised hospital admissions valued at ₹5,668.80 crore. These figures describe authorised care, not the number of distinct beneficiaries or cash paid directly to families.1

Context: This is an update on an existing scheme. It should not be read as unlimited coverage or a promise that every treatment at every hospital qualifies.

Who this matters for: People aged 70 and above and their families

What to do

  1. Read the official conditions and confirm the hospital and treatment coverage before arranging care.
